I need voice actors
« on: December 21, 2013, 08:35:37 am »
I need people to make strange noises for my creatures! Ill post what creature noise is needed and just let your imagination run wild. Dont worry about doing anything seriously

If you decide to do a recording, please save it as a WAV file :)

Goblin
A cowardly goblin who revels in attacking humans.

I need...
An attack noise, a pained noise, and a very pained noise.

Big jaw monster
A strange creature that has an enormous mouth and lives in caves.

I need...
An attack noise, a pained noise, and a very pained noise.

A noble warrior
A noble warrior who is seeking a duel.

I need...
An attack noise, a pained noise, victory cry and a defeated cry.

A vile worm
A caterpillar-like creature with oily brown skin, attacks with its spikey tail.

I need...
An attack noise, a pained noise, and a very pained noise.

Neat idea. I just found out my microphone has broken wires. I'll try to get another one soon (or fix this one) and see if I can come up with any decent sound effects.

Todd, those sounds are just what I needed! Where did you get them from?

Any help would be appreciated, John :)

Well as I have unfortunately been given the task of doing video editing for the trailers etc that go along with the games I make nowadays, I decided to sign up for a 1 year account at videoblocks.com...one of the categories they have stock assets for is audio.  Also pond5.com has cheap stuff on there.

I would find a place with public domain recordings. See what the waveforms look like on those recordings, and see if they could be somehow synthesized. Or if that didn't work out, just modulate the public domain stuff. Help improve the public domain.

Also, don't record speech. If you must, use a made up language. The future is in hardware accelerated speech synthesis. Until there are good open libraries for that, text is where it's at. Games with speech are awful laughing stocks. Friends don't let friends record voice tracks for their video game projects...

Unless you can hire million dollar actors like Disney does (like the biggest budget games don't) your speech will be a blight on your game. Even primitive synthesized speech would be an improvement. It's easier to forgive a machine. So much easier. And besides, you want your game to be accessible to everyone, translating vocals is too much work, and too much data to store anywhere.
