« on: May 13, 2009, 04:16:33 pm »
Is anyone still playing this?

I havent gotten my copy back yet so I likely wont be playing it again for quite some time.

might deactivate this thread if there is no news for this game.

I got a question for you.  I had purchased the asian release and had a reletively high level character save on it before selling it.

If I rebuy it for the american release...will my save game work or do I have to start from scratch?

I am definitely contemplating picking this one back up after the holidays and i get some extra cash.

you will surely have to start from scratch. as it has always been with any game in history, japanese or other country saved games comunicate with different strength files than the strength files in american copies.

but i would not worry in the least, i have a level 20 character with the moonlight sword and dark silver armor.
and it would be my pleasure to escort you straight to those items.
go ahead and grab the american copy. start with the standard night from the cover, and upgrade only faith to 24, and strength to 18. its all you need ;)

the moment your soul level hits 10, ill be there waiting for you

I am still playing, though not online, i like challenging myself to the offline mode.

Does anyone think that the KF origins are shown true in this game? I mean, yes atmospherically the dark, caved walls and some architecture applies to this, but the music isnt such a bit hit for me. The thing i loved alot about KF was the music, it really got you drawn in, and created tension/atmosphere based on the music.

I think if you played through KF without the music, it wouldnt be as exciting. Thats just my opinion.

Yes, no music in level adds to the general realism, but i think music on/off should be an option in level.

Agreed, seems like From either just doesnt have a good music department or the programmers are really bent on not having music.

Shadow Tower had no music, KFTAC might as well have had none (I personally think it has the worst sound track of the series by far) - I think Echo Nights had limited music, and so does Demon's Souls.  I understand they like to build ambience and suspense through no music and good sound effects, but to me it becomes a drag to play games like that.

Probably one of the reason I didn't keep the game when I owned it.

I like no music games when done well. It seems like having BGMs and having them set to off by default would be pretty weird. I don't think From' has any problem coming up with music. It's just a design decision if it isn't there. Having music on all the time can be very difficult to integrate into an interactive experience. Unlike in a movie what's happening can change at any second, and we don't yet have technology to have an AI symphony playing on behalf of the player's present situation. And let's face it, music in the background isn't realistic. Put some music of your own on if you need to have it... I'm sure there are some KF OSTs out there if you want them.

PS: I remember thinking the KF4 title theme really captured the essence of KF music (which I'd be hard pressed to really describe in terms of sub-genres)

I recently began playing Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition.

I've put about 110 hours into it so far, and it's a pretty okay game. But it's hard for me to get much into a game that's 3rd person. I just find 3rd person to be so unrealistic, and the view of your character takes away a lot of the element of surprise (such as an enemy unexpectedly attacking you from behind, as you can see everything in 3rd person).

It's surely nothing like the KF series though. I'd rate it about a 7/10
