Info on extracting King's Field textures
« on: June 24, 2011, 08:50:02 pm »
Creatura got me thinking about extracting KF models with textures and all. I did some checking and KF textures are stored in a TIM format with an altered header which means they can't be auto-extracted with a standard TIM tool.

But if anyone cares to take the time, it should be easy enough to make a simple byte swapping program to convert KF textures to standard TIM files (which can easily be converted to BMPs). I made a document with some info on KF's format
HERE.

It also includes a copy of the "RTIM.T" file off the KF disk whose 64x64 pixel textures have been converted to standard TIMs using just a 'search/replace' feature in a hex editor. There's also some extracted textures and the complete Kraken enemy in MQO format.

Added some more textured enemy models to file, including Creatura's new friend Mel Morris.
It's amazing how efficient these textures are- about 8 enemies and they use less than 256x512 worth of texture.

Some KF trivia- the shell on the two headed-slug enemy uses the same texture as the slimes! If you look close in game, you can see the same pattern in both.

Yeah! WHO ARE YOU? lol

I'm sure if I want to include minigames in my game and ask you how you will explain it to me and even give the source :))
Although I'm not interested in adding minigames, I'm just saying.

Anyway did you see KF1 fish and mosquito between those models?

Ha, 2D images aren't very hard to figure out since they're all pretty much the same.

The mosquito (dragonfly) is in the pack. The fish is attached.

King's Field Japan had a few models on the disk that never appeared in the game. Like the Dragon Crest

I wonder if some enemies were cut from the American release?

Attached is an updated copy of the textured enemy collection including the big boss himself weighing in at 14 separate textures- more than any other KF model!

More fun trivia- From Soft hid their logo on the bottom of the Mecha-Termite enemy- ha ha cheeky monkeys!
