I know microsoft offers an SDK for directx to get your system up to date with all the patches etc theyve made for directx over the years...you might want to install that and see if it corrects some issues you have with older compatibility.

I thought you need d3drm.dll to use any of the 3D importer tools

Anyway, just find d3drm.dll. I doubt you can find it on a Microsoft website. It's probably officially scrubbed from history (Microsoft does not only not support deprecated libraries, it aggressively erases all trace of them from history.... if not for print media there'd almost be no record of that era of DirectX)

PS: I had no problem finding the file online in the past. Though in theory just downloading anything can include a trojan (on top of appearing to work) ... whenever you feel safe, just add the file to the same folder as x2msm.

Thanks. I dont see the point in trojans / backdoor software. People must be pretty sad to implement those into files and programmes.

Fixed! I found a decent website to dl the missing file from and added it to the same folder as x2msm, as you said.

Worked a treat! Cheers!

People must be pretty sad to prank call / email spam people day in/out, but it's never stopped them. Criminal profit motive is the point. Or corporate conglomerates might do it so you'll buy into their "antivirus" software... who knows.

PS: The file is not technically missing. It's a file which would've been on your computer had DirectX7 been installed back in Som's day. In fact if you install the DX7 drivers that are on the Som disc, it very well might install the file. Might cause other probs though (I really don't know)

^I don't understand

EDITED: Your in game settings should in no way be related to how the editors work (in case that's what you're getting at) ... or are we talking about x2msm still???

Nope. I'm talking about the Som_map and piece setup. Before i couldnt place items, npcs, objects or enemies and i can now, since i changed the settings in game, i dunno whats happened because i hadnt fiddled with anything else.
