Test your Sword of Moonlight know it all-ness...
« on: October 17, 2009, 03:10:21 am »
Question #1: What two keys on the keyboard let the player step left, and step right, and which does which?

Bonus pts: Name every function on the keyboard and the key used

And no guessing, because I don't know the answers :5innocent2:

Todd assigns point totals :smokin:

Are you talking "step", strafe while playing a SoM made game?

NUM pad 4 to strafe left, NUM pad 6 to strafe right.
NUM 1 & 3 to turn left and right respectively.

Heh, I thought you were mentioning hotkeys involved with SoM itself.
...a lot of which are utilized from the Windows OS.

Like CTRL+S does save, even though there's no prompt.

I use TAB, Enter, Space and Esc to do quite a bit of navigating as well.  (change selection, accept1, accept2 and cancel respectively)

Actually, those two buttons were something I needed to know, because I don't have those on my keyboard (mapped them away to make room for others)

But yeah... some quizes about tool hotkeys would also be telling. I know a number that make working with SOM easier, but I'd like to know more/have a reference myself.

From now on all questions should be phrased as a question!

PS: If you guys want to you can use the Kudos or whatever as points (I can make it say Points/pts instead) ...technically there are two numbers (positive/negative) ...so one could be reserved for more important stuff.

If anyone wants to translate the manual, I can provide high resolution pictures.
I have too many other things going on right now to do it myself.

Forward: 5, Up Arrow
Back: 2, Down Arrow
Turn Right: 3, Right Arrow
Turn Left: 1, Left Arrow
Strafe Right: 6, Right Arrow+Alt
Strafe Left: 4, Left Arrow+Alt
Look Up: 9, Page Down
View Straight: 8, End
View Down: 7, Delete
Weapon Attack: Shift
Magic Attack: Ctrl
Event: Space
Menu: Tab
Apply: Enter
Cancel: Esc
Debugging: F1, F2, F3, F4, A, Z

Most of the other editor controls mentioned are standardized like Tab, Ctrl+[Number], CtrlZ etc.

^I'd definitely like to see scans. I could easily translate the important information/gist of them if need be. I'm kinda curious if the accompaniments are at all decorative, or if it's just a white book style manual.

An authoritative list of shortcuts would be nice to have as well.

The documentation is just utilitarian (black and white and minimal screen shots) except for the manual cover that has a nice embossing.

My interest is in providing English SoM users a decent translation of the Japanese manual. I don't want to go to the trouble of 'scanning' the manual unless it ends up providing a translation for everyone. I'll 'scan' the first few pages as soon as I get time and post the pictures; if anyone provides a decent translation of them, I'll scan the next few pages and so on.

I have done rough translations for several parts of it and most of the info is very basic. That's why translating it has not been terribly high on my priority list.

Here are the first pages of the manual. If someone translates them, I'll 'scan' more.

The manual is bound in such a way that laying it on a flat scanner would severely crease it and probably make the pages fall out, so I have to take multiple photographs and pick out the clearest. That takes quite a bit of time which is why I'm reluctant to do the whole manual unless it's translated.

Yeah, my camera actually does a lot better job than any scanner I've ever had. Might want to consider investing in a tripod/remote control if possible.

PS: Thanks for the scans in the other thread. When I first saw them, I thought they were posted in this thread...

This is probably the wrong place for this (can always split) but anyway, I can translate most pages like this about as fast as I can type them. But I can't guarantee 100% accuracy. Typing them out in Japanese might be more useful an undertaking (but looking up the odd kanji is a pain in the ass)

Anyway, let's try page 1 shall we...

Quote
????????????????????
1. things to know before getting started

???????????????????????????????????????????????
The theater of a Sword of Moonlight game is composed of an assemblage of "maps".

????????????????????????????????????????????
We will call this assemblage of Sword of Moonlight made maps a "project".

?????????????????????????
Depending upon the theater volume the map number will change.
?????????????????????????????????
In regard to a single Sword of Moonlight project
???64??????????????????
the maximum number of maps which can be created is is 64.

??????????????????????????????
The complexity of your project's production is up to you.
???????????????
For your first time, a practical and understandably so
??????????????????????
simple production is a good place to start.

Some of the language is really wonky to translate. It makes sense, it just doesn't sound right. I just left it alone for fear of losing anything too much in translation.

My friend who is interested in translating stuff for us (and his portfolio) could probably do a better job in the long run.

This page was actually a little more complicated. I had to look up some words to get a feel for how they were being applied in a technical sense.
