Question on King's Field 1 (Japan translated .iso)

I'd like to play the Japan translated version, not the Sword of Moonlight one, on my fat PS3 (60gb version.)  What do I need to make it work?  I have heard from people that my PS3 needs to be modified for the disc to play?  Or that I need a memory card boot up or something?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
