King's Field Series / kings-field.com future website: To restore what was lost to the colorless fog

Once upon a time there was this really cool website, kings-field.com, a one stop for most things related with the King's Field and Shadow Tower series. The site had guides and really cool maps that help me get through some of these games.

I am in the process of recompiling the contents of kings-field.com with the aim of making it available for posterity. Despite that the original website has its charm, it's pretty outdated and difficult to browse with modern devices, such as phones and tablets. To be clear, my plan is not to simply republish the original content but also add content of my own to:

(1) compliment some of the old original content,
(2) improve readability,
(3) increase visual interest, and
(4) perhaps finish some of the parts that were never started or finished (such are the sections for King's Field II).

I came across an old discussion (http://www.swordofmoonlight.com/bbs/index.php?topic=807.0) in this forum and it seems some of you had an interest in restoring the site. The
member dmpdesign started archiving the site here (Thank you!), but it appears that some of the content is broken or missing. Moreover, the site still have links taking readers back to the current (plague infested) site.

I began collecting all of the content and browsing the internet of some of the broken and missing parts. So far I've been able to find most, except the 150 screenshots of creatures from Shadow Tower that were once published there. I believe that back in the day I saved these somewhere, but unfortunately haven't been able to find. I was hoping that some one here had a copy of these files. I found a post in Imgur that reuploaded some of these (https://imgur.com/a/xxuqg).

It's something I've been wanting to do for a while and finally decided to commence. I hope that I can give all the content that the original authors created a new home.

What? You've found a gameshark code for EXP when defending / counter attacking ? Great !!! That's what I've looking for since many years ago.

Many codes on internet shows only when attacking first to get 65535 EXP, but not for defending or counter attacking. Thanks 🙏

By the way, you can change 03E7 to FFFF to get max level instantly 😁

Hello,

I'm following what you show here, but i'm stuck at gimp part, where says '"Tools" and click "GLGE Operation", Find opacity in the list of commands it gives you': the name changed to 'GEGL Operation' and there is no opacity command anymore: https://image.prntscr.com/image/jYjEwQ_HSGym8LHtlVPY2Q.png , but i know it is here: http://prntscr.com/vjlex4 but it is already at 100% and if i change it to something else, it starts to disappear.

I'm using Gimp on version 2.10.10, so, if needed, tell me which version of gimp i need to download in order for this can work..

Or, when possible, update this your tutorial for the newest version.

Another solution/alternative is welcome too.

Edit: I found the alternative for this issue i was facing: choose 'GEGL Operation', and from drop menu there, choose 'Unpremultiply alpha (unpremultiply)'. After that, in 'Blending options', on it's drop menu, choose 'Normal' mode and in 'Opacity' leave it as '100' and boom, you're done:

General Discussion / Wiki rendering issue.

Hi!

Went to find something on the wiki today and it seems to be missing all the content. Well, the information is there if you select the 'view source' tab, but nothing is rendering on the page.

Tried with all the ad-blocking etc. stuff disabled and still no luck.

Anyone else have the same issue?

Here is an image of the dark stairwell discussed near the beginning of this conversation, reproduced in a SOM project with a new variable lighting system. Interestingly the lighting changes seem to affect contrast also, which is also reproduced in this image.

P.S. For some reason this image seems very dark for KF2 images. It's strange how KF2 can feel so vibrant usually, but also so dark simultaneously sometimes. I suppose they balance each other out. Playing on a dark background or dark environment helps a lot to make the dark feel visible.

Filtering tends to make it feel darker than in the original. That's because the bright colors get mushed into the darker ones at a distance. The green caves feel much more green and much less gray because the green and gray mix together. (Edited: this has since been fixed by adding an "sRGB" blending model that converts between pixel values and the "energy content of wavelengths of light". I'm not quoting anything but it sounds more complicated than it seems like it ought to )

Note:
In cutscenes when the characters talk without the player pressing X - The audio desync. ( 4 cutscenes in the entire game)
So I made a revert to 30fps during all cutscenes, feel free to remove it if you want.

The original game is a better game. They're not substitutes for one another. I think very few people have played the SOM version, much less finished it. You want to play the PlayStation version of course. I'm making a faithful version of KF2 right now (http://www.swordofmoonlight.net/bbs2/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=286.0;attach=1211;image) to showcase SOM. The KF version that comes with SOM isn't faithful to the original. It has all new and reinterpreted art that's somewhere between Shadow Tower and KFIV's style.

It's has a pretty rushed and unfinished feeling like it's more to demonstrate a SOM project than to be a proper game. By replicating KF the team didn't have to invent a new game and it makes it feel like SOM is for mainline KF games by making the fist a remake of KF, even if it's not at the quality level of a console title.
