Title: Any known problems running King's Field on Windows 7?
Post by: 8bitninja on December 17, 2011, 10:40:55 am
I was just wondering if anyone know if there will be any problems running the SoM version of King's Field (translated version) on Windows 7 and if so, are there any neat solutions to these, if any, problems?

I have not had any problems playng SoM games on Win7, and I've only had a few minor problems with SoM itself but they where easy fixes. It's nice to see new people here, I hope ya stick around.  :beerchug:

The only problems you may run into are running the videos, if you use my version i uploaded the vids have been redone in an indeo codec which I believe is not supported by Windows 7.

If you load it and the opening movie plays, youre in business!

Everything seems to be running fine, even the movies, but my computer, which is a gaming beast, sounds like saw-mill when I play this game which makes me really nervous...

Under the system menu there are quite a few different options for graphics acceleration, you may want to switch it to hardware/software based and see what runs better.

Im not sure what resolution youre playing in but that may have a pretty factor as well.

Im told that a project called SomEx may help adapt SOM made games for better graphical play on some systems, but to get more information on that platform you'll have to visit the forums here:

swordofmoonlight.net

The site owner there has been updating that software for quite some time and it likely would improve any graphics issues you may have.

I played the SoM version of King's Field 1
And its no wear near as good as the original King's Field 1 >_>
the enemies are all chumps in the SoM version and the npcs are less fancy

Agreed, though Verdite's work on new enemies has really improved the AI, attack speed and so on of newer made enemies (not sure if SomEx is involved in that).

It wouldnt be hard to make the enemies in that game hit harder and have more hit points, but to make them move more quickly would require completely new enemies as from what I can tell its mostly all in the animation that controls their maneuverability in combat.

If you would like the source code for KF1 to remix their difficulty I would be glad to get it to you....oh and welcome to the forum!

Yeah, hi zen, and welcome to the site!  I think we all can agree that the KF remake left a lot to be desired. I guess it was meant to be more of a demo for Sword of Moonlight than a well balanced game. The "Stone Face" enemies at the end Boss were even set so high that they fired over the player's head.

Remixing the "remake" is fairly low hanging fruit. Fans could've done that when SOM was new if they'd wanted to.

The original is not so different. Maybe stun is not so easy? Maybe the hit radii is smaller like in KF2? But the AI is pretty much the same. In fact every bug you find in SOM you'll find in KF2. It's like it was ported to PC bugs and all.
