The new patch is ready and available here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?no2vjabs1hjjxrj
I have some 'companion' packages too which are pretty much part of v1.2, but it would have complicated things to include them in the patch:
Optional font pack- changes in-game fonts and adds new font options to 'formatted message' events:

Wide screen Map Editor pack- remakes the workspace for the Map Editor to utilize new monitor resolution:

Beautiful.
Thanks!
-
Bloomin marvelous.
By the way is it possible to change font "som1"? Mines not so nice...
-
Sure, if you pick out a font you like, I will make a special SoM1 version for you.
What is it you don't like about it? Maybe I should change it.
-
My font overlaps the menu bar and its not the original font used by SoM (although i did install it) i've fancied using weathered SF for a while, but had no idea how to :)
Btw is it safe to export fonts with a project? I dont want to upset any authors.
-
I wouldn't recommend distributing a commercially copyrighted font, (though I doubt anyone would complain), but Weathered SF appears to have a free license - and is available as a free download on quite a few reputable sites, so I think it's OK to include with your SoM game.
I'll try to put it together for you.

Do you mean that the font included in my 'font pack' linked above made menu bar overlap, or is it some other font that's causing the size problem?
Edit: Attached is Weathered SF (SoM4) and the modified exes that will set it as the default game font. The font had to be resized a little to fit with SoM. If you want to tweak it more, I can send you editing info.
-
Hey it looks awesome! Thanks alot John! Weathered has been one of my fave fonts for ages! :rainbow:
I'm very grateful!
Btw i meant some other font was overlapping and not your font :)
-
Sure, you're more than welcome :)
I like Weathered too- it looks tidy but has just enough 'noise' that it doesn't look sterile.

Alright, time for the computer noob to ask yet another question, lol
ummm, how do I open a .rar? I know its some kind of compressed file, but thats all I know.
-
You'l need 'winrar' or .7zip you can find either on google. (.7zip) is reccomended by me because its free and easy to use.
-
i downloaded the patch but it kept saying that it couldnt cause some files were different versions.. did i do something wrong?
what do u all reccomend?
-
Thanks verdite.
-
i tried a new som just fer shytes and giggles but the patch said the same thing some files it doesnt like.. the message i get is patche failed such and such file is from an unknown version... not sure what to do or what version i need.. i tried moving fies but had to move a lot before it would work and not sure if i got the whole patch.. the register button fer example is still there .. anyhow is there a way to run the patch without it saying i have unknown file versions???
-
Maybe Todd could answer this, or wolf when he comes back from his hols.
-
yeah, I'm gettin the same problem, however my dissapointment was short lived when I saw the goodbye message for canceling the patch:
-
yeah was pretty funny.. well idk what the version things all about but its nuthin a dewalt wont fix
-
Sorry, I've been away! The problem you're having is because the SoM version Todd has here is already patched to v1.1.
You need a fresh v1.0 install of SoM to apply the v1.2 patch to. If the patch tried to apply to the incorrect version of SoM, it would just corrupt it, so it stops as a safety feature.
You can get a disk image of SoM here (to install v1.0). 1 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=T00USY4O) / 2 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZE1TOU6F) / 3 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=W3LHD1E9). If it's too big for dial-up etc, let me know and I'll put together a minimal-size version.
-
when i unzipped the rar the 7z said that part 2 and 3 iso broken.. is that bad or can i ignore that?
-
That is probably a serious problem. Are the 3 files the full size (right click > properties) ~181MB for two and ~43MB for last?
-
yeah i tried downloading it twice but it says the same diagnostic message iso file is broken on part 2 and 3..
maybe zip a working program or something?? id like 1.2 if its better than 1.1 but not sure how to get it now ... anyhow ill keep workin on 1.1 fer the time being
-
I just downloaded it and it extracted fine using WinRAR. You might try using WinRAR (http://download.cnet.com/WinRAR-32-bit/3000-2250_4-10007677.html) which has a free trial period.
-
ok ill try that ohh btw.. is 1.2 a better version than 1.1? i know its better than 1.0 but since the 1.1 and 1.2 are different as opposed to traditional patches i figured id ask
-
'Better' is mostly an opinion so all I can say is I think it's better. There are a number of SoM bugs that are fixed in 1.2 like misaligned textures, NPCs that face the wrong way when talked to and easily misaligned event message text. The main non-bug change was that the Map Editor was rearranged to be faster to use and more intuitive, and there are some added notes to help know what number (angle on a warp event) makes the player face north etc. You can read the patches readme.
You can still make a game just fine with 1.1 so it's up to you.
-
well if i can get the file burned ill go 1.2 my burner is currently down but maybe i can go to my parents home and borrow theirburner and maybe get a nice home cooked meal.. mom loves to cook... ohh 1 more question if i go 1.2 will i have to change or redo my project to date if so let me know and ill make sure and write down my programing so i can easily catch up xd and thanks again fer ur help
-
i used winrar and it seemed to combine the 3 into 1 big iso program.. im assuming it worked riight but just wanna verify that is what it should do... im assuming then i burn it to a cd and run that unless i can open the file directly
-
there is a tool named Daemon tools.
I use that one and winrar extracted the ISO file from 3 parted archive.
you can also open the ISO file with winrar, ultraiso or any other program like that.
Any other questions?

ohh 1 more question if i go 1.2 will i have to change or redo my project to date if so let me know and ill make sure and write down my programing so i can easily catch up xd and thanks again fer ur help
V1.2 is fully 'backward compatible' except I renamed the 'On Target' spell tag (for clarity), so if you have already used one of them in your project, you will just have to re-select the spell model in the Parameter Editor (very simple).
-
Thanks fer ur help i got it running and its great and easier to use..
The only other isue is this version doesnt have some of the objects and items that 1.1 has for example the statue base and the light crystal and dark drystal.. there are some others too but my question is can i get those and they still be compatible with the 1.2 version... if there were to be another patch in the future i wouldnt want thoe files to mess with that.
can i just transfer them from 1.1 or u got a 1.2 version of them? helppp me lol
im still an Som noob  :crying:
-
For the sake of making things simple, could someone make a prepatched version of v1.2 like on the main site? I'm not always able to download things and when I tried to download the orignal, untranslated version of SoM I've just run into a few problems. I'll save ya guys some time and not start talkin about it, lol. Thanks in advance.
-
I don't know if it'll work for you, but there's a simple install here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5XMGYKQ5).
-
...and a few months later...
I've just been able to download it and I patched it as well, at a quick look everything seemed to work. Thank's very much! :beerchug:
-
:ninja:
Months :)
-
As soon as one problem is fixed another appears right in front of me...
Well, as I said the other day I took a "quick look" and now I've just now noticed a new problem: The map editor. The copy, paste, save, ect. are all hidden by the start menu. The only way I can exit the editor is to use the task manager, and at first I thought "A bit annoying, but I can deal with this."
Now, here comes the big problem: the save button is down there too! I can't save, test the map, or save, can't copy/paste map tiles, and oh, did I forget to say I can't save?
Well, at least I'm keeping this in good humor and trying to laugh about it rather then throwing my computer into a brick wall. Well, anyway, any help here? or am I stuck this time?
-
Luckily, there isn't an endless supply of problems. Once you figure out the starters, things usually get smoother :)
What you describe is from having your desktop resolution set smaller than SoM needs. SoM needs 1024x768 minimum desktop resolution; what is your desktop resolution? Are you using a 'virtual PC' setup?
-
Attached is an updated Map Editor.exe. It has the traditional close/minimize buttons added to the window's frame. Also lets you minimize the map editor clicking on its button in Window's Start menu.
-
Well, the updated map editor helped a bit, but I still can't use those buttons at the bottom. My resolution is 1366 x 768 and as for a virtual PC, I'm not exactly sure what that is...
-
This is my fault Scott. I was trying to maximize the viewable workspace so I made SoM's Map Editor taller than it probably should have been- thinking people could drag it higher if needed. But I probably shouldn't have. Attached is the Map Editor sized closer to SoM's original size. It should work for you. Sorry about that :sweatdrop:
-
Good of you to support your program like this John. Peoples problems are solved so much faster with an exe.
-
Thank you very much! it works now...give me another day or so and I'll have another problem... i just know it, lol. For now everything seems to be fine, and maybe I'll be able to make a full map this time, lol.
:beerchug:
-
What are you thinking to make?
-
Well, I don't have anything 100% planed and I've got this silly little fear of plagiarism. That's the main reason I've never really said much about what I'm tryin to do. It's a silly fear i know. Oh, and another reason: The ideas within my head are changing a lot and it's a bit difficult to set something in stone. I guess in the end it will be just another rpg made by an amateur story teller.
-
Yeah if you play games often or see a film your ideas will probably change, you'l probably notice something you like that you'd want to implement. As you develop your story and game though you'l get a certain 'feel' or style on a whole which is less mallable... Being a good thing really because you'l focus on it better.
