As far as getting the AI to level up lower units better, theres a fairly easy way to accomplish that- simply tweak a routine to add a little XP to low level enemy units every turn. The game already does an evaluation of all enemy units and inventories every turn. That XP wouldn't be earned fairly, but I don't know if that matters as long as the game isn't too hard.

sffrrrom, I hope to make a quick basic difficulty mod some day, but I'm just to busy to be serious at it right now. I had a patch to remove the time limit on Forsena.org. I'll see if I still have a copy.

I saw a sentiment earlier about being sad that there's not really any exploration of the betrayal potential sideplot. Like gimme extra battle dialogue...something...make the reason more than just the white feather in the sky.There were several areas that I longed to see fleshed out more in the game- like why Leonia didn't ally with Almekia and Caerleon, but at least GE does cover some unanswered questions like the fate of Padstow.
Eh, it's relatively minor, for a game that's been out at least ten years...still...
Rovole, do you know if they boosted the AI in GE compared to LoF? I agree that GE's AI isn't as good as a human, but given the processing power available on the PS1 it seems impressive to me. There's so much more going on in Brigandine battles than other strategy RPGs of the day like Front Mission 3.

About names, against my better judgment several were changed back in the last release including Vampire Lord. Paladin was never changed. "Cavalier" and "Avenger" were made up names by Atlus and are literally "Knight" and "Black Knight" in the Japanese- which is what I used in the translation. Is it that you want me to carry over Atlus' mistranslations or is it that you want me to always use the literal Japanese? Does anyone else have an opinion on this? I think Atlus made some stupid name mistranslations in places (like G-Scorpion) and I don't like the idea of continuing those.
The "Cat O' Nine Tails" name was too long for the menus so I used a less common ancient name for that whip "Nin Haler" (nine tails). I could use probably fit "Cat O' 9 Tails" but I think it looks bad.

If you don't like it, don't promote into the next tier. If I intend to keep a character as berserker, I keep said character from gaining the final class-level until 30. I switch the character into the brawler line to level, so I can have high-level axe users.
I do similar things for characters that are low enough to switch into fighters, for use of blades.
Hee hee, so in a game where a black unicorns can teleport an acid breathing dragon onto a distant mountain peak, we're wondering why an axe wielder suddenly uses a sword? :biggrin: Seriously, it is an odd change. It seems like Paladin/Black Knight should have been two optional paths when leveling up from a Knight, and the Barbarian route should have stayed pure axe-berserker. It might have something to do with the design team wanting to reuse each sprite a certain number of times and the Knight's re-palleted sprite already has a sword?

Yesterday an enemy killed my rune knight and my monster(salamander lv 27) was lost in the field. So I managed to win the battle and kept my city and wtf I lost my salamander forever!My beloved monsters wasn''t in reserve space in the city or even with the enemy.
I guess that in forsena when this things happen the lost monsters could be found in reserve monster space in the city(that you defended or conquest).
or is because i'm playing in hard mode?

Just getting around to playing this now for the first time. Which patch should I apply to it for the increased difficulty mod you were experimenting with? Is that "Grand Battle" and can I apply that after having already applied the first patch? Just want to make sure I am playing the correct version I intend to play, so I can offer some feedback appropriately.

"Grand Battle" is the extra difficulty patch so no, thats the one you want to avoid for now. The patch you want is labeled v7 , the full filename being "BGE D1 & D2 Translation v7.zip." The "Grand Battle" patch can be applied to either clean or patched images.
Just some questions about the grand patch:
1- The hit% of status change and critical hit is less for me and more to the cpu?
2- the exp earned after killing a monster is double to cpu and normal to me?
Good news for those awaiting the Dubbed version. All roles have been cast, and all audio has been recorded except Lance. I should have those Lance files to Hwit by either tonight or end of the day Wednesday! Then it's all in his hands :-)
- For people saying that the hit/crit rates are skewed when they have applied the patch (or maybe due to Hard mode?); I haven't felt it, I crit as much as the AI and their hit rates still follow the mechanics similar to the human player.
Seriously, I'd much prefer the AI getting global +250 EXP each turn from the get-go than this. I'd prefer fighting a proper Lv25 Brangien than a Lv15 one which hits and evades like a Lv25...
...-Enemy knights having random +HP/+MP/+STR/INT/AGI/+RP/+RA per turn feels too much tampering of balance. Please consider changing to +EXP each turn, even including monsters.
This was discussed early in the thread, and the main problem with this is that there is no existing architecture to implement this sort of thing. The grand battle patch is more of a hack than a true mod, modifying existing strings of code with different values is one thing, implementing entirely new ones is another entirely, though it seems that existing +stat routines are just a step away from becoming +exp routines as well. If exp itself can't be allotted out, maybe an outright +level to go with the boosted stats can even things out.
This seems to have been mentioned multiple times throughout the thread, the main issue is not whether or not this is a good idea, but how to go about implementing it. Keep in mind that the entire workload burden is placed on a single man's shoulders, so be mindful of how much you ask for.
I actually can't pinpoint why the extremely buffed stats of the enemy bother me so much; maybe because I don't like the feeling that such +stats are "unobtainable" by the human player. Part of the charm of Brigandine is it engulfs all the countries within its own mechanics; an AI enemy country also battles it out with another AI enemy country similar to how the human player fights one, and what the player can obtain can also be obtained by the AI, which BGE improves upon by the enemy AI being able to also send knights to quests.
Rovole, BGE is the sloppiest, most inefficient game I've ever seen. There are double copies of all kinds of data. I don't know how many members of E3 Staff continued on with Hearty Robin, but it seems like many aspects of GE were just plastered inefficiently over the original LoF by people who didn't really get how LoF was working. For example, there are segments of Japanese text that appear in LoF and are still in the data in GE, but are set to no longer appear in game. I don't know if it was error (using the 'end-text' tag instead of the 'next line' tag) or if an editor decided to block some lines and just didn't bother to remove the text. I pretty sure the game could have easily fit on a single disk if they had wanted to.

I'm very satisfied with the update that is already available. But will probably wait for the final version to really play the game all the way. While I tested it. I cound not avoid to notice that the Demons were translated as Imp, Archdemons as Siren, and Lucifer was Arch Seraph even had its Sprite color changed. I'm not very familiar with japanese but I do know that the kana in the game could be romanized to Rushiferu. And its clearly a fallen angel (considering that it is Light and Dark at the same time). Weird enough, Lilith remained the same. :confused: I wound like to know the reason for the change?

Side question. Does anyone know how to create a Monk? I thought one could cross class Ranger / Priest and get Monk path. Are they available ONLY as a Priest hitting level 10? The reason I ask is cross classing an Expert Ranger with ANYTHING is incredible as it perma- gives you hit&away. I would love to get a monk with physical stats with hit&away and just go to town pushing all sorts of stuff into an oncoming breath attack.Late into my previous run I have also planned on making a Champion/Guardian hybrid, but the hard part was finding a low level priest who can also cross class to a ranger (or vice versa). The only rune knight I found capable of this was Georg (at level 8), but he has poor RP growth and thus discouraging to use.

Attached is a special build of the number converter I made for the translation project. If you want to find any knight's definition:
1) Extract the exe from the ISO onto your PC.
2) Locate the knight's name in the exe and enter that location in the number converter "In EXE" field.
3) Copy the resulting "Memory hex" field from the converter and search the ISO for that value. That should show you the beginning of the knight's definition.
4) Copy the 12 bytes after the value you searched for, and search the ISO for those 12 bytes. You should find another copy of them later in the ISO - that would be the 'definition override'.
5) If you want to change the knight's class. Do the same thing as with Millet; change the byte where Millet's "1D" was (current class), and change the byte where "02" was for 'class levels achieved'.
If you want to find the appropriate values for "1D" or "02", look up another knight's "definition override" who has the values you want to use.

3. and then the screen goes black
i even try another emulator PSXeven but the result is same

hi, first does the disc 2 actually work. open epsx and open disc 2, if it loads to the main screen as normal then its working, if not then you have a bad copy of the game.
if its a good copy, try not playing on full screen and see if that helps when swapping discs.

i figured out what alters the rune power growth, the max you can get per level is 9 rune power and min is zero of course. its 1 byte located along with the rune area of the knight.
this is the full code for each knight, found one for the LOF but this is a little alters in GE

i really confused, i play as Iscalio, i changed the FF code to iscalio's country, but the code of the country only 1 digit number (4 for iscalio) what should i change the other one?
1 tested myself as F4 or 4F or 4C but aldis didn't join my country, she only appear when my knight on quest, she show up as that she's already become iscalio knight. but after the quest, aldis don't appear (show up only on quest) but what really funny is, when aldis on quest & getting something (getting efeerti when i played) i have the efeerti but i don't have aldis...
if i put the wrong code please tell me the right code to get aldis with the code, aldis is the hardest knight to get (not to hard if i choose leonia, i tried it many times before)
instead of get 65535 exp, if you know the code to get 999 exp please let me know too. 999 exp code is better than 65535 when you raised a knight.

I managed to find RNG address by pure luck when I did debugging & crawling for maximum stats potential for every level up,
this is several tips that I can give to you regarding it :
- there is SO MANY function in brigandine system that call function jal 0x0001fd94 (this 1fd94 is function to generate one random number for brigandine system to use)
you would love to fix the RNG right ??

is the prove of that :smile: because I know a thing or two about programming, I wrote the STR INT AGI calculation function from scratch with simple conditioning. so we can always get best STR INT AGI every level up (including enemies)

numbers that always change means = set of numbers that never same value each frame
I know that RNG in address 800A67FC will only changed when function jal 0x0001fd94 is called and I don't like that
so my solution is very crude,
by force address A67FC (RNG address) with address 9DC9C (contain number that always change every frame)

simply I just make brigandine RNG totally random ... since brigandine is relying address A67FC so much.

i have try this code, i start new almekia with squire level, YES it does changes level to king, BUT unfortunately the time is still running, when i reach 221 (in disc 2) the game is over .

I am sorry if this is such a troubling request. I don't think Grand Edition organize & battle BGM is bad. But,
it's just I prefer LoF version and I believe it can be accomplished here with all of you gurus.
I know basic Hex editor knowledge but sadly I don't know how to replace BGE music with LoF version

You have to use google translate but i believe these to be accurate. I haven't tested personally but these are what I use for balance purposes.
need more information to help. It looks like a corrupt file or an issue with graphics(obviously).
1. Reset the game
2. Reinstall emulator
3. Use a different game version

I don't know if this code will work if your savegame already at year 221. This code is remaining time limit modifier, so I believe it should work. Squire mode value is start at hex FF in new game (decimal 255 = unlimited) while Knight & King mode start at value hex 90 (decimal 144 = end at year 221 month 3 - game over) every month it is reduced by 1, when it reach 0 the game end
Search in hex for Lance 24 01 c8 00 46 01 6f 00 (class is Prince 24, level is 1, exp is 200, Hp is 326, mp is 111)
Depending on which "game" you select you may need to change the class for "Lance" and "Dryst" in more then one location in the game data or you can begin a new game and edit the savestate.
